Are you a new apartment or home owner? If so, there are many things that you may not know when it comes to staying safe when you are in and out of your place. With so much crime on the news and in other forms of media, it is hard to stay or feel safe no matter where you are. That is why I have put together some of the best tips to help you, your apartment and your friends and family sleep a little better at night.

Door chain lock

Make sure you always keep your apartment locked

Many people do not think of the little things that could be dangerous when leaving or settling in at an apartment. One of the best things to do is make sure you always have your door locked. This is very important when you are in the apartment, out of the apartment or even just running down to the mailbox.

Another very important thing is to always be attentive when walking into the apartment. Whether you are parking your car or getting off of the elevator, make sure that you are paying attention to the things around you because criminals will look for a busy/weak target.  Some other tips include parking in a well lit area, putting a brook stick handle in the back sliding door, make sure your door has a peep hole and a dead bolt.

Now, these are obviously not all of the tips that you should know when it comes to being safe, but for more information visit the apartment safety basics website.
